Golf Anywhere
Privacy Policy
Golf Anywhere ("the app", "the game") is published by Golf Anywhere LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect when you play, why, who helps us run the game, and the choices you have. It covers the Golf Anywhere apps for iPhone and Apple Watch, and our website at golfanywhere.app.
The short version. You sign in with Apple or Google so your progress is saved to an account. We keep your account details, your game progress and your purchase records, and use them only to run the game. We don't sell your information. Your swings are measured on your phone or watch, and only the results of your rounds (your scores) are sent to us. You can delete your account at any time in the app.
1. What we collect
Information from your sign-in
Golf Anywhere needs an account (except for the practice shot during the tutorial). When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive:
- An account identifier from Apple or Google, which lets you sign back in.
- Your email address. With Sign in with Apple you can choose "Hide My Email", and we receive a private relay address instead of your real one.
- Your name, if you choose to share it, which we use as your starting display name.
- For Sign in with Apple, a token that lets us end the link with Apple when you delete your account. It is stored encrypted.
We never see your Apple or Google password.
Information you give us in the game
- Profile: your display name, left- or right-handed setting, units (yards or meters), and your golfer's body type and look.
- Tour Card signature: if you sign your Tour Card in the game, the drawing is saved to your account.
- Equipment and looks: what your golfer wears and the clubs, shafts, ball and shot tracer you have equipped.
Gameplay
- Rounds: the course, tees, date and your score on each hole (strokes, putts, penalties, fairways and greens hit).
- Progress: your level, experience points, coin balance and history, items you own, achievements, best scores and stars, and story progress.
- Daily activity: how many holes you played today, which the game uses for daily limits and rewards.
Purchases
Purchases are made through the App Store, and Apple handles all payment details. We never receive your card or bank details. To deliver what you bought, we receive and keep the App Store's signed record of each purchase: the product, transaction ID, dates, the store environment, and whether it was later refunded or revoked.
Technical information
- IP address and app version, sent with every request to our servers. We use them to keep the service secure (for example, to limit repeated sign-in attempts) and to tell you when an update is needed.
- Sign-in sessions: for each signed-in device we store a session record with the IP address and app version it signed in from, so we can keep you signed in and let you sign out everywhere.
- Device check: where available, Apple's App Attest confirms that requests come from a genuine copy of the app. It gives us a key for this device, not your identity.
- Crash and error reports: if the app or our servers hit an error, we may record technical details (app version, device model, what went wrong) to fix it. We set these reports up to leave out your name and email.
What stays on your device
- Motion sensors. The app reads your iPhone's or Apple Watch's motion sensors to measure your swing. This happens on the device. Only the results of your shots, the scores, are sent to us, never the raw motion data.
- Apple Watch and Health. When you swing with Apple Watch, the app starts a workout session so the watch keeps measuring with your wrist down. The app does not read anything from the Health app and does not save workouts to it.
- Settings and caches. Sound, haptics and similar settings, plus a copy of your progress so the app works offline, are kept on your device. Rounds you finish offline wait on the device until you're back online.
We don't collect your contacts, photos, precise location or microphone audio, and we don't access your camera.
2. How we use it
- To run the game: keep you signed in, save and restore your progress on any device, score your rounds and give out XP, coins, levels and items, run the daily shop, and deliver purchases.
- To keep it fair and secure: check that purchases are genuine, check that rounds are plausible, prevent cheating, fraud and abuse, and protect our servers.
- To support you: answer your messages, restore purchases and handle refunds.
- To fix and improve the game: investigate errors and crashes, and understand how features are used in aggregate.
- To meet legal obligations: for example, keeping purchase records for accounting and tax.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it to build advertising profiles. When ads are turned on, see section 6.
Legal bases (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, we rely on these legal bases:
- Contract: to provide the game, your account and your purchases.
- Legitimate interests: security, fraud and cheat prevention, fixing errors and improving the game, where those interests are not outweighed by your rights.
- Legal obligation: accounting and tax records, and responding to lawful requests.
- Consent: personalized advertising, when ads are turned on. You can withdraw consent at any time.
3. Who we share it with
We share information only with companies that help us run the game. They may use it only on our behalf and under contract:
- Apple: Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases and refunds, and App Attest.
- Google: Sign in with Google (if you use it).
- Cloudflare: hosting for our servers and website, network security and short-lived server logs.
- PlanetScale: our database, where your account and progress are stored.
- Sentry: crash and error reporting.
- Google AdMob (only once ads are turned on): showing ads (see section 6).
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the rights, safety or property of our players, us or others, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of the game. In a sale, this policy would continue to apply to your information, or you would be told about any change.
Our display of your name is limited to your own device. Golf Anywhere does not currently have public leaderboards or show your profile to other players.
Google user data
If you sign in with Google, we receive only your basic profile (an account identifier, your email address and name) and use it only to sign you in and identify your account. We don't request access to your Google Drive, Gmail, contacts or any other Google data. Our use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
4. Where it is stored
Our service providers run servers in several countries, including the United States, so your information may be processed outside the country where you live. When we transfer personal data out of the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, we rely on safeguards the law recognises, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and our providers' data processing agreements.
5. How long we keep it
- Account, profile and gameplay: for as long as you have an account.
- Sign-in sessions: until you sign out, or 30 days after you last used that device.
- Server logs: a short time, currently up to 7 days. We design our logs to leave out names and email addresses.
- Backups: up to 30 days. After that, deleted data is gone from backups too.
- Purchase and coin records: when you delete your account, these are unlinked from you and kept without your identity, as long as needed for accounting, tax, refunds and fraud prevention.
6. Ads
Golf Anywhere may show ads between screens, never in the middle of a swing. Players can remove these ads with the one-time Ad-free purchase. The daily free coins can be earned by watching a video, or claimed without one by Ad-free players. Ads are not switched on yet. When they are:
- Ads are served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect your device's advertising identifier, IP address, approximate (not precise) location and how you interact with ads, to show, measure and limit ads and to prevent ad fraud. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
- On iPhone, your choice comes first. We'll ask through Apple's "Allow apps to track" prompt before ads use your advertising identifier for personalized ads. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", you will see ads that are not personalized. You can change this any time in iPhone Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
- In the EEA, the UK, Switzerland and US states with privacy laws, we show a consent message (Google's consent tool) before personalized ads, and you can change your choice later under Settings > Ad privacy choices in the app.
- To confirm you watched a reward video, AdMob tells our server that a reward was earned, with a random reward ID. No personal details are included.
Under some US state laws, personalized advertising can count as "sharing" personal information. If you opt out (through the tracking prompt, the in-app ad choices or a Global Privacy Control signal where the law requires us to honor it), we will only show ads that are not personalized.
7. Your choices and rights
- See and change your information: your profile and settings are in the app under Settings.
- Delete your account: in the app, go to Settings > Delete account. See how deletion works.
- Sign out everywhere: ends every signed-in session on every device.
- Unlink Apple or Google: in Settings, as long as one sign-in method remains. You can also stop using Sign in with Apple for the app in your Apple Account settings.
- Ads: see section 6.
Depending on where you live (for example the EEA, the UK, Switzerland, California, Colorado, Virginia and other US states, Brazil, Canada or Australia), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or get a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict some uses, to withdraw consent, and to opt out of targeted advertising. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
To make a request, email contact@golfanywhere.app from the email address on your account, or tell us your display name and how you sign in. We'll verify the request comes from you before acting on it, and answer within the time the law sets (usually 30 days in the EU and UK, 45 days in California). You can use an authorized agent where the law allows. If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you can also complain to your local data protection authority. If we refuse a request, in some US states you can appeal by replying to our answer.
California notice
In the past 12 months, we collected these categories of personal information for the purposes in section 2: identifiers (account identifier, email address, IP address), customer records (name), commercial information (purchase records), internet or network activity (requests to our servers, gameplay), and inferences limited to game progress. We don't sell personal information. Until ads are turned on, we don't "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and after that, only as described in section 6. We don't use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you. We keep each category for the periods in section 5.
8. Deleting your account
In the app: Settings > Delete account, then confirm. When you delete your account:
- Your account, profile, signature, progress, coins, items, equipment and round history are deleted from our live database straight away, and from backups within 30 days.
- We end the link with Sign in with Apple, and sign you out on every device.
- Purchase and coin records are kept without your identity, for accounting, tax and fraud prevention (section 5).
- Coins and items can't be restored after deletion. The one-time Ad-free purchase is also recorded by Apple against your Apple ID, so ads stay off on devices signed in with that Apple ID.
- Deleting your account doesn't cancel anything with Apple or Google. Golf Anywhere has no subscriptions.
Without the app: if you no longer have the app, email contact@golfanywhere.app with the subject "Delete my account", from the email address on your account (for Hide My Email, the relay address). We'll confirm and delete it as above.
9. Security
Connections to our servers are encrypted. Your sign-in session is stored in your device's secure Keychain, and on our side, only a protected record of it is kept. Our servers check every purchase and reward themselves rather than trusting the app, and our database is encrypted at rest and locked down to the minimum access each part of the service needs. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you and the authorities about a breach when the law requires it.
10. Children
Golf Anywhere is a general-audience game. It is not directed to children under 13, and it is not in the Kids category of the App Store. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under the minimum age for consent where you live (up to 16 in some EEA countries). If you believe a child has given us personal information, email contact@golfanywhere.app, and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We'll update this policy when the game or the law changes, for example when ads are turned on. The effective date at the top shows when it last changed. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
